The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management Unit of the Aalto University School of Business is seeking candidates for the next admissions round of its doctoral program. Applications begin on November 5th, 2019, and last until January 23rd, 2020 at 12:01 o’clock (Finnish time, GMT +2).

Our research at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management Unit
Faculty, post-doc and PhD research at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management Unit is strongly multi-disciplinary and inclusive, applying theories and methods from management, economics, psychology, sociology, and geography towards diverse entrepreneurial phenomena. Current research focuses include:
Myrto Chliova | Social entrepreneurship and collective organizing to address grand challenges, such as refugee crises, inequality, poverty |
Teemu Kautonen | Entrepreneurship and population ageing, stress and wellbeing, trust in organisational relationships, economics of entrepreneurship |

Our research meets the highest quality standards, and is featured in top journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Perspectives, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Harvard Business Review. Our research output frequently receives significant awards (Academy of Management, ISBE) and prestigious research funding (Academy of Finland, Tekes).
What do we offer
We offer an English-language four-year doctoral program in Business. We are looking for select candidates with a demonstrable potential for conducting excellent research who ultimately want to establish themselves in an academic career. In our program, we provide doctoral courses and supervision in an attractive, collegial and friendly international work environment. Our objective is to make your stay at the Aalto School of Business rewarding and to provide you with an excellent foundation for your future career in academia. Full time doctoral students receive a base after tax salary of approximately 25,000 € net (depending on other income and tax deductions) per year in the first two years.This base salary can be supplemented on a competitive basis from external foundations. From year 3 onwards, doctoral students typically secure funding from the numerous foundations supporting doctoral research in Finland, including the Helsinki School of Economics foundation with which we are directly affiliated. The School may also offer fully paid doctoral researcher positions for the best candidates, as well as additional income from a variety of teaching, administrative, and research activities. Generally, securing funding is unproblematic for students who are active and progressing in their research.
The School of Business is located in the Helsinki capital region. Helsinki has been praised as one of the world’s most livable cities, e.g., by Monocle Magazine and in the Economist Intelligence Unit livability rankings. As for Finland, the country is consistently ranked highly in quality-of-life studies. It was recently ranked the world’s happiest country in the World Happiness Report 2019.
