Delivering expertise on youth social entrepreneurship to the United Nations
The 2019 World Youth Report published by the United Nations will focus on youth social entrepreneurship. The United Nations state that “youth employment and the reduction of inequalities represent top priorities for the global community and governments across the globe”. To tackle these issues, “social enterprises, with their hybrid goal of being financially effective and socially transformative, are particularly apt at generating locally-driven responses to a wide array of issues hindering collective social progress and economic development, especially for vulnerable groups”.
Dr. Virva Salmivaara from Aalto Entrepreneurship team was invited to serve as a consultant with the responsibility of drafting Chapter 2 of the World Youth Report 2019, which answers the question: Why is youth social entrepreneurship an integrated solution towards the 2030 Agenda?
Together with other experts and representatives from academia, United Nations entities, and intergovernmental organisations as well as young social entrepreneurs, she also participated the Expert Group Meeting held in New York in December 2018 to support the preparation of the 2019 World Youth Report.
